The Lemur News! Week of Dec. 17 – Dec. 21

Monday
Review Solar System Books – So Much work went into these massive books…our biggest project so far this year.  Spend some time looking over each planet and ask your child to share some facts they learned about each one.
Paint Astronaut Helmets – We painted our helmets white
Begin gift for family -We started working on a gift to give to someone we love.

Tuesday
Gift For Family – We continued working on our gifts.
Read-Aloud – A Chair For My Mother – There are so many reasons to love this book.  The most important lesson we get from Vera B. Williams award-winning classic is that families and communities can be very kind and help each other out when they need it.   This book is a great example of compassion.
Read-Aloud – The Nutcracker – We read this beautiful version of the Nutcracker story by Susan Jeffers to kick off our Nutcracker-themed Math Games
Math – Nutcracker Math Packet – We started working on our packet of math games with the Nutcracker theme.  Sorting, pattern matching, number reading, counting…

Wednesday
Chanukah with Preschool and Kindergarten – Every year Mr. Oremland plans fun activities for mixed age groups to celebrate Chanuhak.  We shredded potatoes, tried latkes, played the dreidel game, heard the story of Chanukah, and made a clay menorah.
Teachers Give Gifts – Mrs. Swanson and I gave our gifts to students.
Helmets complete! – We counted down and blasted off with our finished helmets!

Thursday
Storytelling – The Elves and the Shoemaker – We listened to the fairy tale about some elves who help out a shoemaker family in need.  To repay their kindness, the shoemaker family makes new clothing for the elves. Wearing costumes, we acted out the story playing different characters.
Nutcracker Math Packet – We continued working on our Nutcracker math games.
Assembly – Madrigal Fest -We enjoyed the Mad Fest performed by the Middle School.

Friday
Acting Out The Elves and the Shoemaker – We continued acting out this story trying different characters.  Inspired by the story, we then made a nice card for the cleaning staff who makes our room nice and clean every night while we are away.

Read-Aloud – The Story of Saint Nick – Mrs.  Swanson read the story of Saint Nicholas.

Winter Party!

A giant THANK YOU to our room parents Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Shutter for all the planning, setting up and supervising of our Magical Winter-Wonderland Party!  It was so much fun and our classroom looked beautiful!  Be sure to look for the snowflake ornaments and cocoa-portrait with candy cane stand in your child’s bag 🙂
