Guided Writing – Bats at Night – Each student composed a page for our class book, The Bats at Night.  Each page began…”The bat saw…” and then each student thought of what the bat saw during the night time.
Math – Tricky Teens – The teen numbers (11 – 19) can be very tricky for some!  We focused on those numbers today and thought of different strategies to make these numbers using Unifix cubes.
Illustration – Bats at Night – We printed each child’s page in our story and students used their nocturnal animal drawing skills to illustrate their writing.

Tuesday
Brainstorming – Props and Costumes for Bats at Night Play – We went through each page in our story and brainstormed what we would need for props and costumes to act out each page.  Students worked together to construct, sew, and paint many needed items.Image result for two little witches ziefert

Thursday
Reader’s Theater – Bats at Night – Using our props, costumes, and the nocturnal forest as a backdrop, we acted and out each page from our story.  I made recording and am putting it all together as a video book….soon to be released!
Literacy – Whiteboard Letters and Words – Students worked on letter formation and cvc word spelling.
Literacy – Mother Goose Box – Nursery Rhymes are a great way to exercise phonemic awareness and memory skills.  I have a box of felt rhyme stories…children pull a token from a bag and “purchase” a rhyme from me.  We will practice these all year.

Friday
Reader’s Theater – Bats at Night – We continued working on our play
Memory Game – The Secret Door – Memory games are great for this age!  We played a spooky haunted house game called The Secret Door by Family Pastimes.  Family Pastimes makes cooperative games…also great for this age..the players work together against the game instead of against each other.  Mystery Board Game The Secret Door by Family Pastimes - Award Winning
