Small Group Treehouses This Week

Monday
Intro to Beekeeping – Our playhouse is now a beekeeping house.  Students learned how beekeepers care for bees and collect honey.
Intro to Fishing Pond – Our climber is now a fishing pond.  It is currently stocked with bluegill fish.  Students learned how to safely use the fishing poles and catch & release our fish.
Bee Pollination – Students used pipe-cleaner bees to distribute pollen on a bouquet of lilies.

Tuesday
Symmetry Game – Using pattern blocks, partners took turns creating a symmetrical design
Full Body Portrait and shadow – No more potato people!  These almost kindImage result for secret life of planktonergarteners are too sophisticated to draw people as a circle with lines coming out…they drew pictures of themselves with all the arms and legs coming from the right places.  These drawings and accompanying shadows are for the shadow art going up in the hallway.
Pond Life – Plankton – We watched this incredible video about the smallest form of life in the pond…plankton.

Wednesday
Garden Subtraction – Using popsicle stick flowers in a play-doh garden, students took turns picking some flowers and then creating a subtraction sentence.
Setting for Shadow Drawing – Students created a setting for their shadow portraits.  The setting could be inside or outside and must include a light source.  We read the amazing book Shadow by Suzy Lee
Mother’s Day Card – We talked about what we love to do with our wonderful mothers.  Then students made a loving card to go with their gifts.

Thursday
Guided Reading – I read with each student from their book bags.

Dandelion Cycle – We have been seeing the little yellow weed known as a dandelion everywhere lately.  We learned how these flowers grow and spread.  Students created a cycle page.

Friday
Guided Reading – Who Lives in a Pond? – Students used their decoding skills to read the emergent reader, “Who Lives in a Pond.”  This paper book was sent home in red folders…ask your child to read it to you, using word detective skills.
Pond Mural Drawings – We added fish, bees, butterflies, and ducks to our pond mural.
REad-aloud – Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms – Mrs. Swanson read this beautiful book about falling pink blossoms after students had climbed the cherry tree outside.
