Monday
Dragon Eggs – Students be-jeweled their baby dragon’s egg to look like a proper dragon egg.
Math – Coin Book – Meet the Dime –  We looked closely at the dime and opened the dragon shop to purchase items for our baby dragons.
Read Aloud – The Funny Little Woman by Arlene Mosel – This story takes place in China, the funny little woman’s dumpling gets lost down a hole and she meets a magical world when she goes down to get back her dumpling.

Tuesday
Math – Coin Book – Meet the Quarter – The biggest coin in our book, the quarter!
Castle Simple Machines – Pulley & Lever –  Using simple machines, we created a drawbridge and catapults to launch pom poms into the castle walls.

Wednesday
Guided Reading/ Literacy Apps – Students read to me individually.
Math 1-on-1/Math Stations – Mrs. Swanson continued math assessments
Puppet Theater Story #2 – Jack and the Beanstalk –  Students enjoyed a production of this classic tale,  included a beanstalk that grew to our ceiling with the help of a pulley.

Thursday
Image result for family crestMath – Dragon’s Pearl Trading Game – Using our learned coin skills.  Student rolled the dice and earned coins, trading them in to get bigger coins and ultimately the coveted dragon’s pearl.
Symbolism – Family Crest – We looked at some examples of existing family crests and guessed what the imagery and words tell us about each family.  Students then thought about their own families and made choices to represent their family.

Friday
Game Day – Intro to Chess – Mrs. Swanson gave an overview of the game of chess and how each piece moves.
Finish Family Crest – Students continued work

Night of Knights – JK Auction Project

On Saturday March 14, Quest Academy will have it’s Night of All Knights Auction Gala.  Our class will be auctioning this beautiful quilt, lemur blanket and toy chest as one package.  You can buy tickets to attend the gala and bid while you are there.  OR, you can bid from your home online.  Bidding on all items begins at 5:30 pm on March 14.

All of the teachers at Quest Academy also auction special activities for students to do with students.  You will see red tubes in our hallway that say “Teacher Raffles.”  You can purchase tickets before school or after school and enter as many teacher raffles as you like.  Mrs. Swanson and I are offering 1 night of babysitting!  You get a night out and can feel rest assured as Mrs. Swanson and I make dinner, play, read stories, and tuck your children into bed.

Tuesday
Intro to New Unit – Dragon attributes – We started our new unit on dragons by learning the attributes of different colored dragons.  Students decided which type of dragon family they would like to create.
Math – Coin Book – Meet the Penny – We will be looking closely at coins this month, today we started with the penny.

Wednesday
Guided Reading, Literacy Stations- Students read to me 1-on-1 and I updated book bags.
Math – 1-on-1 Math, IXL/Starfall – Mrs. Swanson did math assessments individually while the rest of the group used math apps.
Puppet Theater Story – The Nightingale -Every Wednesday I will tell a story using our castle puppet theater.  The first story was The Nightingale.  Students were able to explain to me the moral of the tale…in order to hear the bird’s beautiful song, the emperor needed to set the bird free.Image result for nightingale

Thursday
Castles and Simple Machines – the wedge and the inclined plane – We began a long, close study of simple machines that will last until May, culminating in our performance, “The Coconut Problem.”  Today we pretended to build castle walls by using a wedge to lift stone blocks and then pushing them up a ramp to stack.
Math – Coin Book – Meet the Nickel – All about the nickel!
